The Learning Place

We're committed to informing patients, families, professionals and the community about cancer.


Everyone is welcome to use the resources of The Learning Place , located at the Cancer Center, 4th floor of Hospital West, UVa Medical Center. The Learning Place has a staff member available to answer questions and an Internet-accessible computer with a vast array of bookmarks to help you do online research.

You can check out videos and audiotapes with information on cancer diagnosis and treatment, alternatives for healing, coping, nutrition, relaxation, meditation, and more. We have resources that family and friends of cancer patients will also find helpful.

Classes & Support Groups

   Nutrition Display

Classes and forums are offered on an ongoing basis for cancer patients and the community. These classes are given by our team of medical professionals and cover the latest information on cancer prevention, early detection and treatment.

CancerHelp

Around the corner from the Learning Place is CancerHelp, a computer information station using touchscreen technology. All you have to do is answer some simple questions, and CancerHelp generates the information you need to cope with and make good decisions about your cancer care and treatment.

The Learning Curve

Convenient to both The Learning Place and CancerHelp is our unique "Learning Curve." The Learning Curve is a brochure rack that is full of information from current support groups and classes to information on hair loss and healthy recipes. Once you see it, you will understand right away where it got it's name....
